The same van we've used for sign-ups for the entire series. Glad you had a good ride in spite of this.

RalphAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3996512539454415045.post-17772922511264328492009-02-24T09:56:00.000-08:002009-02-24T09:56:00.000-08:00OK, so my century this weekend, with a whopping 13...OK, so my century this weekend, with a whopping 13mph average isn't going to have me dropped right off the line, watching people fade off into the distance. I've always wondered what sort of range there was among the riders, since many of the rando blogs I've read are those of very strong and fast riders.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3996512539454415045.post-58026137086530193112009-02-24T09:05:00.000-08:002009-02-24T09:05:00.000-08:00Robert, that really sucks! These days I'm lucky to average anything over 15 mph on my commute, and on big brevets my speed eventually seems to approach about 10 mph average, including stops. No matter what I do.

Luckily, the minimum pace you can keep on most brevets is 9 mph! Which is why my mega-slow, mega-epic, 600k that took 39 hours and 59 minutes still counted!

Don't worry too much about on-bike speed; no matter what yours is, chances are you'll get plenty of time to think about it alone, at night. With 100 miles to go! This is one of the joys of randonneuring.

What you really need to pay attention to during brevets is the time you spend off the bike, that's when it really makes a bigger difference.matt mhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16714669646251289155noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3996512539454415045.post-28813354495071636742009-02-24T07:23:00.000-08:002009-02-24T07:23:00.000-08:00My fiancee and I saw a bunch of y'all at the Trilo...My fiancee and I saw a bunch of y'all at the Trilogy intersection on Novelty Hill as we were leaving the grocery store that morning.
You had a much better day for your 200k than I did on Sunday for my century that incorporated Chilly Hilly in the middle.

So, I see you posting speeds of 18+ mph on these long rides... Am I going to get completely smoked by everyone when I show up and do 14 mph?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3996512539454415045.post-31366950727930548902009-02-23T06:36:00.000-08:002009-02-23T06:36:00.000-08:00Jane and I were dog sitting for a friend and his p...Jane and I were dog sitting for a friend and his puppy was yapping every 20 minutes until it got tired. Then it would start back up again. I wasn't able to get any sleep and knew I'd be a wreck. I'll be there next weekend though.Robert Hhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02005511573396996974noreply@blogger.com
